Take me to your overlocker

I'm thinking I may Need an overlocker, but I'm not sure what to look for.

If you too have experienced and acted upon this Need, any recommendations for brands and features?

I recently got my very first serger. It is a Brother 1034D. It was not very expensive, is very easy to thread, uses regular sewing machine needles and it works wonderfully to sew seams and finish edges. I am still learning what it can do, and how to use it(it comes with some instruction books and a DVD). I checked out reviews of sergers and this model got many positive reviews on several sewing sites

I bought myself a second hand Janome on Ebay and it's fantastic. Just make sure you get a 4 thread so that you can whip up trackie daks etc without having to sew the seams as well.

2 weeks ago I bought a Janome 4 thread second hand from an ad in the newspaper. I managed to get it threaded, from the manual, and have edged my cheese-making cloth with it!
Its about 8 years old and the lady said she used it once- I don't know if I believe her...it came with 4 white cones and 4 black cones and they were all still in their wrappers, as were most of the accessories. I don't think it had been used at all. She was also asking the exact price I had saved up, after the $50 she knocked off the price in the initial phone call!!
So I can't really say if its a good one, because I haven't tried and tested everything yet. But I can thread it. And man, it looks good on my sewing table! ;-)

Yes, you need an overlocker! I was itching for one for ages, and my parents gave me for christmas. Since I started using it I haven't looked back. They are awesome. As for what brands etc... no idea. Mine was an old 4 thread Janome (MyLock 234D) that came from ebay and it's fantastic. But I think the next one I'm saving for will do cover stitch, so I don't have to hem after overlocking edges.
