Scrappy Puppy Quilt!

I love this latest friendly, thrifty quilt top!

It's friendly because it began with a lovely gift from Amy of a large scrap of lovely Heather Ross dog fabric. I made several baby gifts of this sweet fabric when it was in supply, and have gazed wistfully ever since, wishing I'd made something for us.

And it's thrifty because all of the fabric was left over from other projects, or found at our favorite fabric shop, Darn Cheap Fabrics!

The talented Teaginny's Out For A Walk pattern was the obvious choice for this doggy quilt, and the free tutorial was very easy to follow. I hunted down another FQ of dog fabric to make this a luxurious lap quilt for the couch.

This quilt has a lot of texture. The dog fabric has a silky-smooth feel. Some of the squares are smooth, some are textured checks. The sashing is a rough  linen/cotton blend left over from Mister Bell's Christmas present, a portrait-cushion of Miss Maisy Brown. The Maisy cushion will share the couch with this doggy quilt.

But what about the real Maisy? Does she get to share the couch too? Well, grandma let her sit there once. It was a special day.

Bookish Block for the Beehive

I'm very excited to have joined the second round of the Beehive quilting bee on Flickr. For the first month, Meg, a librarian, has requested bookshelf blocks from our scrap box. I looked to my own bookshelves for inspiration...then thought the better of it!

This shelf is from somewhere in the 500s in the Dewey decimal shelving system- books about the birds and the bees, as well as plants, animals and the natural world. An adventure novel appears to have been misshelved! Click on the image for a closer look.

The Lecien bee fabric and treasure maps came from my favorite fabric shop, Darn Cheap Fabrics, as did many of the other strips. Some of them are left over from my newest work in progress, an offset square quilt featuring Heather Ross's lovely dog fabric, which was kindly given to me by Amy. You can see a snippet of the dog fabric on the spine of the dalmation-spot book.
